Perceptions of Students Learning French as a Foreign Language in Malaysia

The study investigated the perceptions of students learning French as a foreign language in Malaysian public university. specific objectives were to examine: (1) self-reported proficiency level; and (2) their listening, speaking, reading writing skills French. Questionnaire data collected from 80 undergraduates enrolled Levels 1 2 courses. analysis showed that learners Level rated themselves having fair level when they made rating without comparing native speaker. However, compared with speaker, more them poor. results relative difficulty mastering French, most difficult easiest, are writing, listening. Similar found for but struggled speaking at than because an increased vocabulary range, greater grammatical complexity longer texts. suggest difficulties not much comprehension towards expressing whether or writing.
